Pier Stars
The starburst effect on the pier lights in Hull, Massachusetts reminded me of stars in the night sky. In photography, this effect happens when small, bright light sources, like streetlights or the sun, radiate sharp, pointed rays. It can be achieved by using a small aperture (a high f-stop number such as f/16 or f/22),…

USCG Station Point Allerton
The USCG Station at Point Allerton in Hull, MA, is illuminated during the blue hour. I used a long exposure to create the silky water effect. Since the sun had already set, I didn’t need an ND filter to slow the shutter.

Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS
After my first failed attempt last week, I finally managed to spot and photograph Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS (C/2023 A3) in the night sky. At first, I wasn’t sure where the best location would be, but I eventually chose Duxbury Beach. The idea was to capture the historic Powder Point Bridge in the foreground, adding some interest…

Blurred Tides at Ocean Bluff
Blurred tides at Ocean Bluff created by a long exposure in Marshfield, Massachusetts. The sun set behind me, casting soft hues across the sky. Since it wasn’t completely dark, I could use a slower shutter speed to blur the waves as the tide receded. This moment was the perfect opportunity to use my Lee Little…

Minot Beach at Sunrise
My previous attempts to capture Minot Beach at sunrise were unsuccessful by the relentless tidal waves and the bitter cold during the winter. However, with the arrival of warmer weather, I ventured out this Sunday morning armed with knowledge from the tidal chart. As the dawn light gradually transformed the sky into a canvas of…

Sunrise in Hull, MA
On this Easter Sunday, I found myself in Hull, eagerly awaiting the sunrise. My go-to spot to witness its beauty is at the start of Nantasket Beach, overlooking Long Beach Rock. As expected, it was a breathtaking sight that never fails to impress.

Driftway Conservation Park
Sunset at Driftway Conservation Park in Scituate. What looks like a peaceful tidal river has an interesting past — in the 1930s, Boston Sand and Gravel mined the property and used the wharf to barge sand to Boston for projects including Logan International Airport. The old wharf pilings are still there at low tide.

Portland Head Light In The Winter
My recent trip to Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, during winter unveiled a new enchantment—snow! Although I had visited before, venturing here on one of the coldest days of the year proved to be an adventure well worth the chill, adding a magical layer to this iconic lighthouse experience.
