Blue Hour from the Other Side of Boston

This weekend, I headed to East Boston to catch first light along the harbor.

I started at Lewis Mall Wharf, hoping the early sun would light up the skyline. That was the shot I had in mind. Clean reflections and warm light hitting the glass.

It never really happened.

The clouds held, and the city stayed in a steady blue hour glow instead. The Tall Ship’s mast lights reflected softly across the water. No dramatic shift. Just a quiet harbor easing into the morning.

It turned out to be perfect for a few long exposures, smoothing the water and keeping the scene calm.

After a while, I packed up and drove over near the Shore Plaza East Apartments to see it from a different angle.

From there, the skyline feels less staged. Tugboats line the docks. The Tobin Bridge stretches off to the right. It’s more working harbor than postcard.

The light didn’t break the way I expected, but the change in perspective ended up being the better part of the morning.
