Along the South Shore: Scituate to Cohasset

Aerial view of Scituate Lighthouse and the keeper's cottage at golden hour, with an American flag flying and rocky shoreline stretching along the coast.

A recent afternoon drive along the South Shore, with stops at Conservation Park, Scituate Harbor, Egypt Beach, Minot Beach, and Cohasset Harbor. The weather could not have been better. Mid-80s in May, calm water, and not a cloud in sight.

Driftway Conservation Park

A quiet spot to start. My dog loves this place, and on a low tide the marsh patterns from above are hard to beat.

Scituate Harbor

The lighthouse is the obvious draw, but honestly the harbor never gets old. I’ve been here more times than I can count and the light is never the same twice.

Egypt Beach

A little more off the beaten path. Stumbled on a vintage VW van in the parking lot — not a bad way to kick off the stop.

A wooden boardwalk ramp crests over a pebble berm at Egypt Beach in Scituate, centered against a pale evening sky.

Minot Beach

A great vantage point for Minot’s Ledge Lighthouse. The sun sets behind you here, and the hues it throws across the water toward the horizon are hard to walk away from.

Cohasset Harbor

A perfect place to end the drive. Catch the water around the Cohasset Lobster Pound at the right tide and it puts on a show.
