Late autumn sunrise at the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge. I got up early and made my way to Academy Drive near the Maritime Academy, hoping to catch first light on the bridge and the canal. After some map scouting and light-angle planning the night before, this spot seemed like the best vantage point for sunrise—and it didn’t disappoint.
As the sun began to lift, fog drifted over the canal, adding a quiet, atmospheric layer. The fog softened the steel structure of the bridge and blurred the shoreline into gentle tones. A lone tugboat moved slowly through the canal, adding just enough motion to an otherwise still morning.

After spending some time here, I headed over to the Buzzards Bay Recreation Area for another perspective. I shot from a few angles on the ground and then put the drone up for a wider look at the fog, bridge, and calm water. Funny enough, I almost skipped this area entirely, but I’m glad I didn’t. The fog was still hanging over the water. For a few minutes, everything lined up just right—soft light, slow motion, and a quiet canal waking up for the day.
A spot I’ll definitely return to. Enjoy the photos!
