I had the chance to visit Ned’s Point Lighthouse this past weekend during golden hour, and it did not disappoint. With the recent arrival of winter, the number of visitors had noticeably decreased. This created a peaceful and quiet setting that made the experience even more special. My wife and I had the entire place to ourselves, which gave me the opportunity to experiment with different compositions and even fly the drone. The grounds were impeccably maintained, with plenty of parking available. However, the bitter cold made our visit brief.
Ned’s Point Light, located on Ned’s Point Road in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, is a historic lighthouse built in 1838 at a cost of approximately $5,000. Named after Ned Dexter, a local farmer, it was constructed under the supervision of Leonard Hammond, a local builder. The lighthouse features a birdcage-style lantern, similar to the Bird Island Light in Marion, Massachusetts. The stone used for its construction was sourced locally, primarily from nearby beaches.
