Highland Lighthouse

A couple of photos from my recent visit to Highland Lighthouse in North Truro, on the way to Provincetown.

Highland Lighthouse, also known as Highland Light Station or Cape Cod Light, is located in North Truro on Outer Cape Cod within the Cape Cod National Seashore. Commissioned by George Washington in 1797, it was the 20th light station in the U.S. The original 45-foot wooden tower and keeper’s dwelling were built over 500 feet from a 125-foot clay cliff. A new brick lighthouse replaced the original in 1831, and the current 66-foot brick tower, along with a keeper’s house and generator shed, were built in 1857. An enclosed walkway connects the tower to the Queen Anne-style keeper’s dwelling.
