After a holiday dinner at Venezia, I wandered to the familiar waterfront area. Next door stood the former Russo Marine site, a place I’d briefly visited before. This quiet, forgotten corner of Boston remained unchanged, waiting to be rediscovered. It offered a stunning view of the skyline and the iconic Rainbow Swash, also known as the Boston Gas Tank. Something about the place drew me back, compelling me to return with my camera and capture its eerie stillness.
This six-acre marina, once home to 75 slips and extensive boat storage, is now slated for redevelopment. The Boston Planning & Development Agency proposed a project with 120 residential units, 23,400 square feet of office space, and a 3,600-square-foot retail area, along with a boathouse. Standing among the ruins, it’s hard to imagine such a change. However, transformation is on the horizon for this historic waterfront site.
