In the bright early afternoon, the Painted Ladies stood in full color along the edge of Alamo Square. Their pastel facades and detailed trim caught the sun, while the city skyline rose in the distance behind them.
The park was lively, with people stretched out on the grass and others stopping to take photos, yet the row of houses remained the calm, steady centerpiece. I tried really hard to capture them without people in the frame, but quickly realized that the presence of visitors added to the scene—reminding me that these houses aren’t just architectural gems, but a living part of the city, enjoyed and appreciated by everyone passing through.
From this spot, the blend of old and new San Francisco feels especially clear—Victorian detail in the foreground, glass and steel towers beyond.
