Discovering the Sandwich Boardwalk
The Sandwich Boardwalk is a must-see at sunrise for anyone exploring Cape Cod. This 1,350-foot boardwalk stretches over Mill Creek and marshes in Sandwich, Massachusetts, leading to Town Neck Beach. With its stunning marsh views and glimpses of Cape Cod Bay, it had long been on my list of places to photograph. I finally had the chance to visit, capturing its charm and the surrounding landscape’s beauty from both the ground and the air.
Getting There and Finding the Perfect Angle
It’s fairly easy to get to, with ample parking nearby. As usual, I arrived early and spent some time scouting for the best angle. One of my favorite times to photograph is just before the sun rises over the horizon. The stunning glow in the sky during this time always fascinates me, enhancing the prominence of reflections. On this visit, I was lucky to catch a perfect sunrise, with the early light gradually illuminating the marsh and the calm waters creating beautiful reflections.
Capturing Aerial Perspectives
Flying the drone around allowed me to see more of the beauty of this location without having to disturb the surrounding landscape. The highlight of the aerial view was the beautiful windy Mill Creek that flows through the march. As I zoomed in on the water’s surface, I was intrigued by a mesmerizing grid-like pattern formed by densely packed black dots. I suspect these might be oyster beds, showcasing the marine life that thrives here.
Revisiting the Sandwich Boardwalk Through the Seasons
I’d love to return and capture the Sandwich Boardwalk in different lighting beyond sunrise to see how the changing seasons impact the landscape. It’s a peaceful spot worth revisiting, both for photography and the chance to experience its tranquil surroundings.
Due to the delicate landscape, it’s crucial to respect all signs and stay on marked paths. By doing so, we can preserve the area’s natural beauty for future visitors while ensuring its sustainability.
