Clouded Morning at Delano’s Wharf

Close-up of the historic Delano's Wharf house with light in its windows, reflecting on the still water. A large boulder sits in the golden marsh grass foreground.

The sky didn’t give me the colors I wanted, but the calm, overcast light at Delano’s Wharf in Kingston, turned out to be the perfect counterpoint, making this historic scene feel timeless.

Merchant Benjamin Delano and his brother-in-law, sea captain Peter Winsor, founded this waterfront site in 1802.The structure you see served as their warehouse at Rocky Nook, becoming a critical part of the town’s maritime trade. This historic house remains a powerful fixture on the stone pier. It is arguably the most intact merchant-era structure of its kind in the region, with an exterior profile that has visually endured since the 19th century.
