I recently configured Tautulli to send notifications through Pushover for when there’s activity on my Plex server such as Play Start/Stop, Plex Server Status etc. and works fantastically well so I decided to write a quick guide on how to do it.

Sign up for Pushover

First sign up for an account at Pushover (just remember that after a trial period, there’s a one time fee of $5 USD) and login where you will be greeted with a page showing your User Key on the right side of the screen. Take note of this as you will need it later. Now towards the bottom of the page you should see Your Applications. Click on Create an Application/API Token. Give it a name, click on the checkbox and Create Application.

Configure the notification agent

Now head over to Tautulli and click on SETTINGS->Notification Agents->Add a new notification agent

Where it says Pushover API Token, insert the token from your newly created app from the step above and below it, insert your Pushover User key that is located on your dashboard area. Feel free to customize the many available options below but usually the default settings will do. Just make sure to add a description at the bottom so you can distinguish this notification if you plan on creating others. Head over to the Triggers tab and choose what you want this notification to do. In my case, I want to be notified every time something starts playing on my server so I checked Playback Start:

Under the Conditions tab, you can customize it so that for example, no notifications are sent when you plan something.

Testing

Finally, head over to the last tab and click on Test Pushover and you should receive a notification on your device. Click Save and you are done!
